I have had the same kind of problem when I was trying to flash with the
power plugged in. If you have the power plugged, try to remove it (just
have the 770 battery enough charged).

Did the trick, thanks!
Although, flashing without AC power goes against my gadget
"conditioning" :-P
You can remove the power supply, switch off the device, connect to USB
and then plug in the power supply. This automatically switches the
device on and starts the flashing procedure.
